My main service offering is to write and edit high-quality customised documentation for financial services and other business clients: I’ll either draft your document from scratch, or transform existing content using professional editing and proofreading techniques.

My approach is simple: listen and write. First listen to your needs, then do the writing or editing. I don't presume to understand your business better than you do: just help you articulate what you need to, in a clear and compelling way.

Along the way you'll benefit from my experience and expertise in the financial services industry – especially in risk, regulatory, governance and strategy – see page ABOUT for more details.

Editing and proofreading services are also available for publishing and other professional clients outside the finance sector - see TYPES OF EDITING below for samples.

How I Do It

My approach to a documentation writing project is always customised to your specific needs.

First we'd agree the specifications, requirements, delivery format and timeline, which are detailed in a written agreement.

In some cases I might need to see existing documents or background information, or spend time gathering data or further requirements from experts in your organisation before starting. This would be set out clearly at the start and done efficiently and without fuss.

Then I just start writing or editing.

My aim is to ensure you get the high-quality, professional delivery you need. Every job is different, and your needs always come first.

Prices vary according to the complexity and delivery timeline, but are typically based on a day-rate. Alternatively I can price by the hour, for shorter-term, rapid delivery jobs which may not suit day-rate pricing.

Types of Editing

I am a Professional member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), and have completed a number of CIEP (formerly SfEP) training, mentoring and CPD activities.

Supported by my CIEP training, academic background and eye for detail – along with the drafting and editing skills I developed in my City career and as a freelance editor since 2016 – I provide professional quality services for clients who need traditional copy editing or proofreading services.

This includes hard-copy or online editing and proofreading services to publishers using British Standard (BS5261) publishing marks.

A common alternative to traditional copy editing and proofreading, especially for digital content, is for the two to be combined, in a one-stage hybrid process known as proof editing.

Using my online editing skills I provide online proof editing services for business, professional and academic clients. This service is especially useful for timely turnaround of digital content such as websites and blogs.

But not only digital content. Proof editing is a good alternative to traditional copy editing or proofreading for any document that can be reviewed and edited online in a single-stage review.

This includes articles, reviews, theses/dissertations, applications, funding bids, correspondence, job-related content, training, promotional or marketing material.

See below for samples of the different types of editing I can provide for you:

Typos, spelling, punctuation, grammar, errors, inconsistencies, layout

Style, structure, usage, impact, messaging plus all proofreading elements
